The Story of the Moss Folk
Long ago, moss people lived in every woodland and forest. Quiet, peaceful and no bigger than a young child, they made their homes deep in the forest among ancient trees and shaded hollows where the moss grew thickly.

They spun their cloaks from moss and took no more than they needed from forest floor. Gentle and harmless, they were the spirits of the trees themselves. Today, they have almost vanished from forest and folklore, but with our help, we hope they will return.
Rarely seen by humans, you can walk past a moss person and neither see nor hear them. They blend seemlessly into the greenwood, peeping out from behind the trees with curious eyes, and the only way to upset them is to harm or disrespect the forest. Every time a tree is harmed, cut down unnecessarily, or bark is peeled from its trunk, a moss person dies.

Once, humans lived in harmony alongside these mysterious little creatures with mutual respect, kindness and a reverence for nature. But today, all over the world forests, ancient woodland and groves are being felled, the wilderness tamed and bent to human will, and as the trees thin, the moss people disappear.
Your unique moss person wants you to take them for a wander in the woods, back to where they belong. Place them in the moss, in the crook of a tree branch or on the forest floor, capture the image, and then leave a small offering of bread to invite their kinfolk to return to their old home. Who knows, if enough moss folk can go back to their roots, moss may gather again. With their help, we can rewild the forests, and feel their magic once more…
