Welcome

to the world of Maddie Templeton Arts, a place where art, folklore and history come together, with a little sprinkling of magic.

Maddie is a young artist working in the mediums of drawing and needle felting. She lives with her family and two renegade cats in North Wales, where she draws inspiration from the wild and dramatic landscapes, and the rich and varied wildlife of the mountains, woodlands, coasts and skies.

A passionate environmentalist and animal lover, Maddie sees value and beauty in all life, from a tiny woodlouse pottering around her back garden to a majestic blue whale far away in the depths of the ocean, and everything in between. She can often be found out walking in nature with her binoculars, where she enjoys watching birds and wildlife, and bringing her observations into her work. She also has a strong interest in British and European folklore, believing that much of our ancient, lost knowledge and wisdom are embedded within these beguiling old tales.

Maddie’s interest in history stems from her love of sailing and the sea. Her human hero is Admiral Horatio Nelson and her hero vessel the HMS Victory. Fascinated for many years by the golden age of sail, Maddie has studied the lives of pirates and their stories, and is proud of her pirate ancestor, ‘Black Jack’ Stockwell.

All of these themes feature, and often inteweave, in Maddie’s work. Each piece is unique, made by hand with love, and each has a story to tell. This may be a tale from folklore, a link to a particular place or time, or simply a special reason why it has come to be. Every creation has an individual personality and character, and if you listen carefully, it may whisper its story to you.

Maddie’s latest project is to revive and save the vanishing moss folk, an almost extinct race of mysterious little forest dwellers from old Germanic folklore. Why not click on the link and read their story, and maybe you too can do your bit to help them, and their precious woodland homes…
